Last year’s VOLT festival, held every year in the town of Sopron in West Hungary, has been named the best European medium-sized festival by the European Festival Awards gala held on Wednesday night in Groningen, in the Netherlands. The organizers of the festival, Norbert Lobenwein and Zoltán Fülöp said they were very proud the prize, which has now confirmed on international level that “it is good everywhere, but it is the best at home in Sopron”.

In 2015 VOLT festival, expected its guests between 1-4 July in the charming historic town of Sopron in West Hungary. Five days long, visitors were welcomed with 15 stages and approximately 200 programs: concerts, DJs, theater shows and performances. This year’s VOLT programme featured an amazing line-up of world stars indeed, including David Guetta, Slash featuring Myles Kennedy & The Conspirators, Fatboy Slim, Bastille, Wilkinson, Ignite, Nouvelle Vague, Motörhead, Rise Against, John Newman, Parov Stelar Band, Parkway Drive, Lilly Wood and many more. The festivals’s sensational atmosphere is clearly showed in the official 2015 after-movie released by the organizers in late November.
Sopron, the town hosting VOLT Festival lies at the Austrian-Hungarian border, 60 km from Vienna, 200 km from Budapest, 90 km from Bratislava (Pozsony). Apart from the festival, the historic town center of Sopron guarantees the tourists fadeless memories. Although at the beginning of VOLT Festival in 1993 only 5 bands and 800 guests attended the event, nearly 100.000 visitors arrived last year. As for theVOLT 2016, superstars such as rock band Iron Maiden and American rapper Wiz Khalifa are expected to deliver performances in Sopron.
Hungary’s flagship festival, the Sziget festival of Budapest, was also recognized at the European Festival Awards gala. Following last year’s prize of Europe’s best large festival, Sziget has won a trophy for the best line-up in 2015. The European Festival Awards were initiated in 2010 by the European festival association Yourope and the festival website Virtual Festivals Europe.
