HUF 9.2 BN TO BOOST NUMBER OF INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS IN HUNGARY

Budapest, February 19 (MTI) – Over nine billion forints is planned to be spent by 2021 on boosting the reputation of Hungary’s higher education system and attracting more international students under the arrangements of the Campus Mundi Programme, said Bence Rétvári, human resources ministry state secretary.

The programme will support Hungary’s presence at education and job fairs and other professional events in Hungary and abroad, as well as the preparation and distribution of publications and the development of databases that promote international mobility, Rétvári said in a written response to a question by independent lawmaker Lajos Oláh on parliament’s website.

It will support research and training programmes in enhancing the international reputation of Hungary’s higher education and increase the number of international students, he added. Currently international students who pay tuition represent 5.53 percent of all higher education students, Rétvári said. Statistics from October 2015 show that international students in Hungary numbered 26,155. Of them, 16,355 paid a full tuition, 8,535 a partial one, and there were 1,270 Stipendium Hungaricum scholarship-holders.
