The Hungarian Embassy in London will keep Hungarian citizens living in the UK continuously updated about the latest developments resulting from Great Britain’s EU exit, Ambassador Kristóf Szalay-Bobrovniczky said on Hungarian public TV channel M1 on Friday afternoon.
- There is no immediate action that Hungarians living in the UK need to take, the Ambassador said. The exit procedure that will commence soon is likely to be complicated and will take several years; however Hungary’s government will do the utmost to ensure Hungarian expats be “in the best possible position”.
- “We are witnessing a historically significant time,” Szalay-Bobrovniczky said. “The people have decided, and Hungary’s government respects their decision.”
- It is apparent that during the referendum campaign the economic arguments in favour of staying in the EU were outweighed by the issue of economic migrants; the latter had a wider appeal to the public, and the EU failed to provide a convincing answer, the Ambassador noted. “Changes will be necessary within the EU,” he added. via portfolio.hu
