Tokaj Oremus’ estate manager András Bacsó has been voted the Winemaker of Winemakers in 2016. The award was presented for the 10th time at an anniversary gala dinner at Hotel Boscolo in Budapest on 29th April. Among this year’s five finalists were another two from Tokaj, Judit Bodó and Károly Áts. The award show saw all the previous nine winners invited to the stage, including Tokaj’s Zoltán Demeter(2007), István Szepsy (2009) and Stephanie Berecz (2014).
András Bacsó is one of Tokaj’s great doyens, a soft-spoken, modest man of immense knowledge of the wines and the terroir of Tokaj to which he has devoted his whole life. He has been estate manager and chief winemaker at Spanish-owned Tokaj Oremus since its foundation in 1993.
The Winemaker of Winemakers Award was established in 2007 by marketing professional, media personality and winery owner Pál Rókusfalvy.
